Sea Grape Residence
Palm Beach Florida
Project Description
Sea Grape is sited on a barrier beach in South Florida on a site that spans between the Atlantic Ocean and an intracoastal waterway. Nestled amongst the palms and awash in the hard-edged light of the tropics, a central terrace is open to the east and west opens to allow the gardens, reflective water, and ocean breezes to flow through its center. Divided into wings surrounding this central space, the south side is a guest suite, while the north wing houses a kitchen, living and dining spaces. Expansive, movable glass walls allow living spaces to flow seamlessly into the landscape. Above the two lower wings a linear bar oriented north-south suspends a master bedroom suite over the courtyard with water views to the east and west. The house is highly sustainable; to minimize environmental impact, each wing may be selectively air conditioned, and roofs incorporate solar arrays and green spaces. Long overhangs, wood lattice screens and the lush, dense landscape create shaded, cool spaces.
